Online tutoring is a great alternative to face-to-face tutoring for many reasons.

The most common reason for employing a tutor online is due to living in a remote area where access to a tutor may be difficult. By utilising the power of today’s internet, we are able to overcome the issue of distance or accessibility very easily.

Online Tutoring Takes Advantage Of Today’s Technology

Online tutoring also allows the freedom of mobility for both students and tutors, as well as a host of other perks that can come from utilising the internet for tutoring. These include things like having access to recordings of tutoring sessions, and being able to use online tools to further the experience.

As technology continues to evolve, we at Simply Maths believe it is important to embrace the new methodologies in conjunction with the old – face to face tutoring and online tutoring do not need to be mutually exclusive, and in finding ways to meld them together creates a unique tutoring experience

How It Works

The Tech

We use the online video conference program Zoom to connect with our students. Zoom works in a similar manner to Skype, except with a few key differences that make it better suited to tutoring (including scheduling calls, screen sharing, a virtual whiteboard, and more)

Who Is It Best For

We have found that online tutoring is best suited to older students who are able to direct themselves in their studies. Online tutoring comes at the cost of a level of personal interaction that younger students tend to struggle without. Fortunately, online tutoring is also more cost effective that in person tutoring. This is largely because online tutoring does not require any travel (or the time that goes with it)

What Do Students Need For Online Tutoring

Students must have a laptop with a functioning webcam and stable internet connection, as well as a digital copy of their textbook and any material they wish to cover with their tutor. The ability to use pen input on their laptop is also advised but not compulsory.
