VIDEO: Work Smart, Not Hard

Something that is constantly bothering me is the huge difference of mentality we place upon students as opposed to employees.

In the workplace, we value efficiency. Imagine we look at two people: one who works hard ten hours a day, and another who work 5 hours a day but accomplishes more than the first person. Who do you think we would value more? The one who knows that it’s more important to work smart than it is to work hard.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the same with students. For some reason, we rely heavily on measuring time when trying to assess students, rather than results. Which means that, in a student’s eyes, working for many hours is the most important way to study… Rather than optimising or improving their study methods, they’re just studying for longer.

Doesn’t make a lot of sense, does it?
